Create an Apple ID for the Organization

The Apple ID is the organization’s account used across all Apple devices and services.

The person opening the account on behalf of the organization must:

    • Be an employee of the organization
    • Have the authority to legally bind the organization with Apple
    • Use a work email address that many employees can access, for example a support or info email address. If you don’t have one, please create one. This email becomes the Account Owner and will need to be accessible should there be any organizational changes.
    • Provide the requested information (e.g. physical address)

Steps:

  • Go to: https://developer.apple.com
  • Click on Account.
  • Click on Create Apple ID.
  • Fill in the form to create a new Apple ID.
  • Copy and paste the code from the confirmation email into the verification pop-up.
  • You will be redirected to the Apple Developer log-in page.

Enable Two-Factor Authentication

Before you can enroll the organization in the Apple Developer program, you must enable two-factor authentication on an iOS or MacOS device that is tied to the organization. This device will need to be accessed by different members who need to log in to the developer account.

No iOS or MacOS device?

  • You can use a personal iOS or MacOS device to turn on two-factor authentication. Simply be sure to sign out afterward, choosing the option to not store a copy of the data
    • Keep in mind that if a member of the organization is trying to log in to the account, they will need the verification code sent to this device.
  • If you have no access to any iOS or MacOS device, contact Apple Support to elevate the request.

To check if you’re using two-factor authentication:

Sign in to your Apple ID account page at https://appleid.apple.com.
In the Security section, look for two-factor authentication or two-step verification, and check if the feature is on or off.
If it is off, follow the steps below to turn it on.

Steps – Using the iOS or MacOS device:

  1. Go to Settings > Sign in.
  2. Sign in and agree to the terms and conditions.
  3. Click Password & Security.
  4. Click Turn on Two-Factor Authentication.
  5. Click Continue in the Apple ID Security pop-up.
  6. You may be asked to answer the security questions (you set these when you created the Apple ID).
  7. Enter a phone number that can be used to verify your identity with a text message or a phone call.
    • It is a good idea to set up more than one trusted phone number.
  8. Enter the verification code that you received via SMS/text message.
  9. Enter the Apple ID account password in the pop-up.

Enroll in the Apple Developer Program

First, log in to your Apple Developer account at https://developer.apple.com:

  • You will be asked to enter the two-factor authentication code sent to a trusted device.
  • Alternately, click the “Don’t have access to a trusted device?” link, select Text Message, then enter the code you receive by text message.
  • Accept the Apple Developer Agreement.
  • Click Submit.

Join the Apple Developer Program

  • Once logged in to your Apple Developer account, click Join the Apple Developer Program at the bottom of the screen.
  • Click on Enroll (at the top right of your screen).
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Start your enrollment.
  • Select the “Entity Type”, take note of the information you will need to provide and click Continue.
    • Individual/Sole Proprietor – Do not enroll as a Sole Proprietor. Sole Proprietor accounts do not allow you to invite team members to your developer account.
    • Company / Organization
    • Nonprofit
    • Accredited Educational Institution
    • Government Organization
  • Fill in the form with your organization’s information and click Continue.
  • Complete the additional information and confirm that you have the authority to sign the legal agreement on behalf of your organization and enter a verification contact.
  • For Nonprofit Organizations, Accredited Educational Institutions and Government Organizations, the Membership Fee Waiver will appear.
Select Yes, I would like to request a fee waiver, check the box and click Continue.
  • Confirm your information and submit. A success message will be displayed.
  • Check your email. You should receive an email confirming that “Your program enrollment has been received.”
  • Apple will review your enrollment. If you are enrolling as a Nonprofit Organization, Accredited Educational Institution or Government Organization, Apple may require you to submit a letter on the organization’s letterhead with the following info:
    • Statement that you have the legal authority to bind your organization to all legal agreements presented on behalf of the Apple Developer Programs
    • Statement that your organization has the intent to participate in the Apple Developer Programs
    • Your enrollment ID
    • Your printed name, title, signature and contact information

Note: If delegation of authority is needed, have the delegating party state on the same letter that he or she is delegating authority for you to sign current and subsequent versions of Apple Developer Program legal agreements. The delegating party must include his or her name, title, signature and contact information.
