Prevent Mosquito-Borne Illness With These Safety Tips

Imagine you’re sitting on a lakefront property at dusk with a cozy bonfire roaring in front of you and a rustic cabin nestled behind you. You have nothing on your mind except rest, relaxation and rejuvenation and then… buzzzzz! You are surrounded by mosquitoes! Sometimes the presence of these pesky insects can just be an annoyance that ruins a blissful moment, but other times it can mean something more serious, like possibly contracting a mosquito-borne illness!

Most mosquito-spread viruses don’t have a vaccine, but there are a couple that do. If you’re going to be traveling to specific areas where mosquito-borne illness is a concern, contact your health care provider to discuss vaccination. If you have just been traveling and have come down with symptoms, such as a fever, rash and muscle and joint pain, contact your doctor immediately. Even if there aren’t any symptoms present, if you have been traveling, you should avoid getting bitten by a mosquito for approximately three weeks after returning home.

Read on for more information and tips on how you can protect yourself and your loved ones from mosquito bites.
